CUCC COMIC NO. TWO
Welcome to the second edition of this occasional
information loaded newsletter. Sorry if you didn't get the first
one, but working out who and where everyone is takes a bit
of sorting. Hopefully everyone is reading this.
The term has gone well so far, with the new members
settling in, and the regulars continuing as normal. With at
least four official club rides a week to choose from, there
seems to be enough to suit everybody, from the muddy
emteebee'ers to the serious roadies. And the touring rides,
with some much needed proper organisation this term from
Edward Lipman, are proving to be one of the most popular
events.
People showing at the social has been a bit low – come and
meet other members in their normal clothes (if you can
recognise them). Wednesday nights, 9pm in the Pickerel
(opposite Magdelene).
TALK BY THE GREAT KEN PLATTS
After this being so successful last year, we have again
asked Ken to share his wisdom on bike riding with us. He
will talk group riding technique – this is essential so that
everyone understands the conventions and the discipline of
riding safely in a bunch – and also about training methods
and racing, so all who are thinking of racing next season
can learn how. A short introduction: Dr. Ken Platts is a
Manufacturing Engineering lecturer, as well as being a very
experienced cyclist. He hs ridden for Cambridge, and some
of his records still stand, as well as performing at both
national and international level. There will be the chance for
questions afterwards. Please try and attend, as this is a
great opportunity for all CUCC members who have an
interest in racing and riding in groups to learn more about
these areas from one of the country's top riders.
The talk will be on TUESDAY 19th NOV at 7-30pm at the
Press Site
lecture room. To find this, go down Mill Lane – about 40
yards before
the river there is a car park on the right. Walk across car
park to top RH corner. Door gives access to Man Eng
Group and lecture room. If it is locked then ring the bell.
WOMEN'S CYCLING
Helen Clark has kindly offered to start some women's
cycling activities to try and encourage more participation in
what is a quite male dominated sport. The first event is a
ride this Sunday (17 Nov), leaving Brookside at 1pm. There
is also a meeting organised for seeing what the interest is
like – this will be on Tuesday 27 November, 7.30pm at
Wolfson – directions will be at the porters lodge.
FULL BLUE MIKE
I am delighted to announce that Mike Hutchinson has been
awarded a Full Blue for cycling. This discreionary award
was made due to outstanding acheivement in time triallling
this season. Well done!
